I find a tablet preferable to my phone when it comes to fishing.
You might also try a stylus, helps to not have fat fingers blocking your view on the tiny screen.
Not all fish you connect with are possible to catch that's how the game is set up ~ some will get away no matter what tactic you try that's the fun of the game ~ at least that's my experience and I've caught them all.
Oh lol, I just reread what I posted, and sure hope you didn't think I was saying you had fat fingers!
I found that with a bit of practice with the stylus the line didn't get as long while fishing, as it was more precise, so needing less space to fish. And the wriggling motion I use was more accurate to turn them back to the centre with the stylus, again making less need to pull or for line to get long. Before, especially in that tight lower left corner spot, my finger used slip onto the bezel and snap the line.
If you don't wish to try a stylus and prefer to keep on with finger, then I suggest working on your finger wriggle technique, so there is less need to pull on long line.
I don't play on multiple devices but I assumed it just scales up on a larger screen and there isnt a difference. Maybe you're just moving too late? Or maybe you went to the edge of the screen and went off the screen?
I use an iphone 5, and I don't use any external tool like stylus. And I've captured all fishes, including the elusive Golden Trout. I rarely fail at fishing, even for the fast and "pullshy" fishes XD There are the two tips from my own experience, hope they can make your fishing life easier:
1. If the fish doesn't seem to respond to your pulling, try not pull at exactly opposite direction. Tilt your angle a little bit. E.g, if fish is running toward 9 o'clock direction and your pulling at 3 o'clock direction doesn't seem to do much, try pulling at 1 or 5 o'clock direction. This way the fish will be pulled sideway (and yes they always respond to that kind of pull). It doesn't make the cycle smaller (the fish is swimming at the edge), but it doesn't make it bigger either, buying you precious time. Then you steadily adjust your pull angle to make the cycle smaller. Eventually you will be able to pull at opposite and fish will respond. Keep dancing in cycles with the fish, and she will be yours :o
2. The fish doesn't always strike very hard. When it's not pulling feroucisly, do a quick "jerk" toward center to shorten your string. If you keep pulling and pulling, eventually you run out of screen space and will be very difficult to manuvor. You can also try shortening your string by "dancing" with your fish using the trick mentioned above.
Also do keep in mind to position your finger to a place that's not blocking the view of fish. For fast fishes you really need to keep an eye on their movement every second. They are tricky to catch (especially on phone), but with practice and patience, you can beat them all! XD
